Our Parish Priest
Father Stephen Tully
For the first 21 years of my life I was a registered, boring Catholic and then after a great encounter with non-Catholic Christians realized I needed to have a personal relationship with God to really be called a Christian. Things then started to change in my life and my commitment to the Catholic church changed hugely. I finished a diploma in Analytical Chemistry in 1985 and then went into the seminary to see if God was really calling me to be a priest. It was a huge culture shock but somehow I survived and was ordained a deacon in Pretoria in 1993. The following year I was ordained to the priesthood at the Pinetown Catholic Church.
My first appointment was to Montebello Catholic church – with 11 outstations, and I spent 7 wonderful years there with great people with serious social challenges. I then moved to Emmanuel Cathedral and stayed there for over 14 years and the building of the Denis Hurley Centre for the needs of the homeless on the streets of Durban was a major blessing for me.
Then I went to Pelham in Pietermaritzburg for 3 years before coming to Ballito so that I could be near the Napier Centre 4 Healing that was opening in Ekukhanyeni – a residential program for street dwelling substance abusers who have made the decision to leave their old lives and start afresh.
Ballito is amazing – the church now looks magnificent and with our New PPC we are going to be doing great things for the Lord. Alleluia
